Why Oils?

How are botanical oils beneficial in skincare?

In recent years botanical oils have become widely recognised by the beauty industry for their therapeutic benefits and organic face oils and body oils have become increasingly popular. Research into certain botanical oils suggest they interact favourably with the skin because they are known to:

  • Balance Sebum production
  • Reduce inflammation and infection
  • Protect the skin’s barrier layer
  • Support hydration
  • Encourage cell regeneration
  • Strengthen the skin
  • Provide nourishment to the skin
  • Contain antioxidants, minerals and vitamins

As we age our sebaceous (oil) glands produce less oils, this leads to moisture loss and impaired barrier function of the skin. When the skin loses moisture it becomes dry and fine lines and wrinkles will deepen. By applying organic face oils/ body oils to the skin we enhance the skin’s natural lipid barrier preventing dehydration by locking in moisture. This is also an effective way of nourishing the upper layers of the skin, where the blood supply is limited. Because the blood supply is limited to these layers of the skin they often lack nutrients and become imbalanced.

At Botanyblend we use ‘cold pressed’ organic botanical oils because they offer optimal performance, this is because nothing is lost during the extraction – you keep all the vital components of the plant including plant pigments and phytonutrients.

Botanyblend organic skin oils are ‘Bioactive’ meaning they are biologically available to the skin bringing life to the skin. We compliment our cold pressed botanical oils with synergies of essential oils chosen for their therapeutic benefits such as their age preventative or antibacterial properties.

Our organic face oils are particularly rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants prevent oxidation, oxidation is a natural process which causes skin tissues to breakdown. Environmental factors, such as pollution and sun damage accelerate this process. Anti – oxidants, anti – oxidise, meaning the neutralise oxidation in the skin, and prevent the signs of aging.

Antioxidants are available in high quantities in fruits, especially berries like Sea Buckthorn and Rosehip. Beta carotene is the Antioxidant in our facial oil Aceso which makes it super rich in colour! Our face oils have preventative properties and blended with certain skin conditions in mind which are as follows:

Vega: Dry/Dehydrated/Maturing Skin

Meru: Combination/Oily/ Maturing Skin

Aceso: Sensitive/ Irritated/ Maturing Skin
