In recent years plant based oils have become widely recognised by the beauty industry for their therapeutic benefits. Research into certain oils suggest they interact favourably with the skin because they are known to:
- Balance Sebum production
- Reduce inflammation and infection
- Protect the skins barrier layer
- Support hydration
- Provide cell regeneration
- Strengthen the skin
- Provide nourishment to the skin
- Contain antioxidants and vitamins
- Some even have a sun SPF
Botanical oils are largely composed of mono and polyunsaturated acids, the most important of these being Alpha Linolenic, Linoleic and Oleic acid, also known as Omegas 3,6 and 9. There are many more fatty acids but these are generally the most important due to their consistency and the benefits they offer to your skin. Most cold pressed plant oils tend to have a balance of these acids in their composition.
Cold pressed botanical oils and essential oils also contain antioxidants, minerals and plant pigments – which help to feed the skin. When blended well, the therapeutic benefits of these oils can be harnessed to create harmonious botanical blends specific to the skin type. At the right consistency the skin is able to absorb these oils enriching the natural lipid barrier of the dermis and restoring the skin to health.
Why wouldn’t you want to use a cold pressed botanical skin oil?!
